OUR WHY
The Backstory
One of the reasons ultimate frisbee has been such a big part in our lives is because of the bonds that we've created with others. Whether it be teammates, coaches, parents, players on other teams, etc. the connections made have more value than winning any game. In July 2023, we were personally affected by the loss of one of our best friends and teammates, Matthew "Lock" Loughridge. Lock was a larger than life figure who embraced every day with a curious mind and desire for adventure. He was a voracious learner, a talented athlete, and a passionate traveler who experienced many corners of the world in his 28 years. He was introduced to ultimate frisbee in his senior year of high school, but it was in college where his love of the sport really grew. He learned camaraderie, sportsmanship and developed into a beautifully spirited young man, creating strong, life-long relationships. Lock possessed a dry wit, was always smiling and had a warm hug and a genuine interest in everyone he met. He was generous with his love and an extremely loyal friend with a wonderful band of brothers. He was thoughtful, insightful, inquisitive and artistic; an old soul and wise beyond his years. After spending countless hours together during our time at CU Boulder, we were destined to be friends forever and continued life's journey together into early adulthood as roommates. We supported one another and did our best to navigate the real world and find our way in it. He was pursuing his passion as an engineer when he left us. Although his time here was cut short, he touched many lives and left us all better people to have known him. He is sorely missed.
Lock's passing has put a lot into perspective for us; primarily the way we want to spend our one precious life. The balancing act of pursuing something you're passionate about, making sure you're building a sustainable career, considering your impact on the world, as well as being able to afford to support yourself are all things we factored into the decision to start Evolve. In honor of him, one of our logos is a silhouette design of Lock jumping off a self-made tree diving board in Grand Teton National Park. That memorable day included teamwork, brotherhood, and a full solar eclipse! It was a day we'll never forget and we are grateful to share a little bit of his story here with you. We hope Evolve can embody all that he stood for.

FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Colorado Mamabird Foundation
Mamabird holds a very special place in our hearts. It's where we established a brotherhood with our closest friends, including Lock. Therefore, it feels only right to have this be the first cause we endorse. We are also featuring merch that will have proceeds go towards the program to help offset costs for the upcoming nationals.
