Akane Kleinkopf & Groundworks Art Lab
Akane's ultimate frisbee journey started at Fairview high school here in Boulder Colorado, which is where she played YCC for 2 seasons as well. She continued playing ultimate at Whitman College as well as CU boulder during grad school. both during and after finishing school she's played on club teams such as Love Tractor, Kelp and now this year Molly Brown. Colorado's WUL team the Alpenglow has also been graced by Akane's presence for 2 seasons, including when they won the championship in 2024. When not playing ultimate Akane is no stranger to coaching. She's lended her expertise in teaching the next generation all about ultimate via GRUPY's summer camps, kids at Fairview, U20 Cutthroat, and most recently Mamabird and CU Boulder.
Not only is she an incredible ultimate frisbee player and coach, but she also works for a non-profit art lab in Boulder called Groundworks. Groundworks Art Lab goal is to cultivate the artist in each of us by inviting creative collaboration in the study, practice, and advancement of the studio arts. Collaboration is one of the main focal points that sparked the creation of Evolve. We have goals of amplifying existing systems in place as well as fostering new connections with like-minded people and organizations. GRUPY, or Grass Root Ultimate Program for Youth, is a kid-focused program created and supported by GRU, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our goal is to provide many low-cost opportunities for kids to have fun learning and playing the great sport of Ultimate Frisbee in Boulder and the surrounding areas. Since 2010, we have been partnering with local schools, cities, and organizations to make this youth program successful. ​​

The Colorado Apex is Colorado's professional ultimate frisbee team playing in the Ultimate Frisbee Association. The Apex play their home games in Golden, Colorado at the Marv Kay Stadium at the Colorado School of Mines. Their mission is to invest in a lasting community of athletes and fans of all ages; defined by our competitive excellence and commitment to inclusion, diversity, and respect. ​
